Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, outlining her plan to curb gun violence Monday, vowed that she would use executive action to implement reforms if Congress does nothing to address it.
She proposed comprehensive background checks, repealing the law that grants immunity to gun makers facing lawsuits, a ban on assault weapons, tightening gun show and Internet sales, and keeping guns from domestic abusers and people with serious mental health problems.

America simply cannot accept as 'normal'about 33,000 gun deaths every year. The vast majority of the American people – including law abiding gun owners – believe we can and must do better," Clinton said on her website. She said a lack of gun control measures "is a rebuke to the families that have lost loved ones, to the communities that are plagued by gun violence, and to this nation that we love."
Clinton said she wants to expand background checks to include sales over the Internet and at gun shows, which her campaign said accounts for between 20 percent to 40 percent of all gun sales.

In her speech, Mrs. Clinton aligned herself with President Barack Obama, who at a fundraising event Friday said the country must make it tougher for people to buy guns and then “act on this hatred.”

BREAKING: Hillary Clinton Running for President. Her Views on Guns
"We’re going to have to do a better job protecting the vast majority of our citizens, including our children, from that very, very, very small group that is unfortunately prone to violence and now with automatic weapons can wreak so much more violence than they ever could have before."
Hillary admitted during a debate in the Democratic primaries that her goal is to re-instate the failed Assault Weapons Ban:
"I will also work to reinstate the assault weapons ban. We had it during the 1990s. It really was an aid to our police officers, who are now once again, because it has lapsed–the Republicans will not reinstate it–are being outgunned on our streets by these military-style weapons."

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sparked a larger debate over the use of executive action with the proposal for confronting gun violence that she released Monday. Clinton said she would act on her own whenever possible if Congress does not pass gun control legislation.
Clinton's proposal includes pushing for comprehensive federal background checks, closing loopholes in the system, repealing legislation that gives the firearm industry immunity from lawsuits, and improving laws intended to prevent the mentally ill from purchasing or possessing guns.
She specifically mentioned using executive action to tighten loopholes surrounding gun show and online weapon sales if necessary.
"I want to push hard to get more sensible restraints," Clinton told NBC. "I want to work with Congress, but I will look at ways as president."
