I won't take a lot of your time or mine -- your mind seems very made up on the issues you raise. But I'll hope that you can take me at my word that I love our state, and it's my belief that background checks strengthen rather than weaken it. We disagree on that but I can tell you that I've thought long and hard about it -- and read hundreds of emails on both sides- and I can't see how requiring a background check for an Internet sale (just like we have at a dealer) restricts anyone's rights. So please know that it's not a casual move on my part.
Best,
Phil Baruth

If re-elected, Baruth plans to introduce a bill this winter that would require background checks for private gun sales. The exact text of the bill has not been released, but Baruth said it would be similar to a gun control bill that stirred controversy in 2015.
