Additional Comments: This candidate is the most dangerous to liberty and Vermont law.
She has stated that she will support every anti-gun bill that Gun Sense supports and even uses the SAME Gun Sense / Bloomberg "statistics" to push her statements!!!
Sue was a Representative in the Vermont House for several sessions, NEVER ONCE proposing any gun control legislation!
NOW, she is running for Governor and needs a huge amount of money from Michael Bloomberg, so she pushes for EXTREME GUN CONTROL in the SAFEST STATE IN THE NATION!
In a response to Eddie Garcia's message to Sue Minter:
On Fri, Dec 4, 2015 at 7:35 AM, Sue Minter wrote:
... I regret that you feel that efforts to keep guns out of the wrong hands by extending the existing background checks at gun stores to all sales is contrary to 2nd Amendment. Sincerely, Sue"

SUE MINTER PUBLIC STATEMENT: "Gun safety: Minter said she recognizes the Second Amendment and Vermont’s gun heritage. She also intends to focus on preventing gun violence."
“I am committed to requiring universal background checks for gun sales — including those that occur at gun shows, flea markets and private sales.”
“Background checks are currently required for all gun sales at Vermont’s federally registered firearms dealers... The same standard should apply to all gun sales.”
“I think we do have a problem with gun violence in Vermont, and in our country.”
“We know guns play a very significant role in domestic violence, and I think it would be wrong to say we don’t have violence in Vermont.”
Sue Minter would also PASS the Burlington Charter Changes into law!!

"Minter says she would start pushing for universal background checks and then examine an assault weapons ban and expanding federal prosecution of domestic violence gun crimes."
"It's going to be up to the Legislature if they pursue to define what is an assault weapon," said Minter."
Sue speaks of herself in the third person, and says "Sue Minter does not want to take guns away from law-abiding citizens, she simply wants to make sure that EVERYONE that DOES own a gun can pass a background check." So, it is about REGISTRATION of EXISTING firearm owners!

“Gun violence is a crisis in our country.”
In a recent appearance on VPR’s Vermont Edition, Minter doubled down and expanded her platform to include an an arbitrary prohibition on some guns currently legal in the state, saying, “[A]fter the tragedy in Orlando, have stepped forward to say we also need to ban assault weapons.”

SUE MINTER WAS A REPRESENTATIVE from 2005-2010 and NEVER introduced ANY anti-gun bills to "protect" women during her 3 legislative sessions!
But, when she wants Michael Bloomberg's MONEY, she is all about "common sense gun safety."
Her heart never went out to victims before... why now?

On restricting Vermonters’ gun rights with new gun control legislation
Sue Minter: “We are dealing with an epidemic of gun violence in this country and Vermont is not immune. That’s why I am proud to have been the first candidate to call for gun safety and specifically background checks for all gun sales. … We have a problem in Vermont and it is actually behind closed doors — I’m talking about domestic violence. Most of the homicides in Vermont are domestic violence related, and most of those are with a firearm. In states where there are background checks on all gun sales, 46 percent fewer women are shot to death by their domestic partners. That’s why I will stand strong as governor to lead on this important issue issue.”

8/5/2016: Leading Democrat gubernatorial candidate Sue Minter, who has made gun control a central component of her campaign, said now is the time for Democrats to make their move on Vermonters’ guns.
“I came to understand that this is not only the right issue, but it is the right time,” she said. “I am so glad that you all have given me the courage to be what some have said: the first person to run for governor in Vermont to call for common sense gun safety background checks for all guns.”
Minter listed off a handful of recent victims of gun violence in Vermont, one of them being Lara Sobel, a state social worker shot and killed on the job last year in Barre. Sobel’s killer, Jody Herring, underwent TWO background check and failed BOTH before proceeding to steal a gun to kill Sobel ...Universal Background Checks are just so law-abiding gun owners have to register their firearms with the federal government!

7/27/16: DePino: Guns and domestic violence
As for Ms. Minter using domestic violence as the key part of her anti-gun rhetoric, it would be honest for her to explain that domestic violence homicides by firearm are extremely low in Vermont. In fact, Vermont has been the safest state in the nation for the last two years. And she knows it. She’s counting on Vermonters not to know it. Ms. Minter and others will say that universal background checks will protect women, but UBCs will protect no one, as 70 percent of Vermonters already have firearms. From 2009 to 2014, 62 percent of the victims of domestic violence homicides have been men. There were zero domestic-violence deaths by firearm in 2009, one in 2010, three in 2011, one in 2012, four in 2013 and four in 2014. In fact, Vermont has only averaged 3.3 domestic-violence deaths by firearm over the last 21 years. And she knows it. She’s counting on Vermonters not to know it. She and Galbraith are playing by the national anti-gun playbook. Violence is not gender-specific. Violence is not gun-specific. Laws do not prevent violence. When choosing a candidate to vote for, please don’t rely on the “facts” presented solely by those politicians.

Sue Minter, former secretary of the Agency of Transportation, seized the moment not to urge a fight against terrorism but to call for restrictions on gun ownership by Americans.
“We make it far too easy for criminals and dangerous individuals to buy guns and because of that we suffer from 25 times more gun homicides than any other developed country in the world. We need elected officials who have the courage to lead on this issue. That’s why I support criminal background checks for all gun sales and a ban on assault weapons,” Minter said in a statement Monday.

6/13/2016: VT Press Bureau: Galbraith’s primary rivals also weighed in Monday. Sue Minter, a former secretary of the Agency of Transportation, echoed Galbraith’s remarks in a statement that embraced expanded background checks and a ban on “military style assault weapons.”
“Planned Parenthood in Colorado, a church in Charleston, an elementary school in Connecticut and now a night club in Orlando – enough is enough,” Minter said. “Today our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the LGBTQ community. But, that is not enough. We make it far too easy for criminals and dangerous individuals to buy guns and because of that we suffer from 25 times more gun homicides than any other developed country in the world. We need elected officials who have the courage to lead on this issue. That’s why I support criminal background checks for all gun sales and a ban on military style assault weapons.”

"This has really been an issue that I stepped forward with early in my campaign after the tragedy in Colorado with Planned Parenthood, and I decided to support strong measures to promote gun safety with background checks for all gun sales, and I'll tell you why. You know, people tell me that we don't have a problem here in Vermont. But I know we do. And it often is behind closed doors ... We have background checks existing at all federally-licensed gun dealers, and what I'm saying is let's do the same for all gun sales. But I also, after the tragedy in Orlando, have stepped forward to say we also need to ban assault weapons."

12/2/2015: Dunne's Democratic rival, former transportation secretary Sue Minter, sides with the masses.
"I believe we need to address gun violence prevention, and we need to do what we can to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous felons," the Waterbury resident says. "And, for me, that includes closing the loophole for background checks."
While Minter emphasizes that she "respect[s] the Second Amendment," she says she was "very shaken" by the August shooting deaths of three family members in Berlin and a state social worker in Barre, all allegedly perpetrated by the same woman.
Clear as she is about background checks, Minter declined three times to say whether she supports banning automatic weapons or high-capacity ammunition.

12/2/2015: Sue Minter… expressed support for requiring that those who buy firearms in private sales and at gun shows undergo the same background checks as do those buying such weapons at gun stores.
Minter, a former state representative and transportation secretary, has since doubled down on her position. In an op-ed her campaign released Thursday, she cited Wednesday's mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., which killed 14 people, as further evidence that Vermont should make background checks universal.
"I do not accept that gun violence is inevitable," Minter wrote. "As Vermonters, we should be part of the solution to this national crisis. To continue the same policies and assume something will change is the most dangerous form of denial. To do nothing is irresponsible."
