Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to approve an amendment to the charter of the City of Burlington that would require that when a firearm is not in a person’s immediate possession or control, it must be locked in a safe storage depository or, by using a locking device, rendered incapable of being fired.

“I’ve come to believe that it’s really high time for Vermont to get up to speed on some pretty basic laws around guns,”
Pearson said.“It’s been hard though. Definitely a hard debate in Montpelier.”
“I actually think the smarter solution is a federal solution so you don’t have patchwork all over the country,” Pearson said in response to the pressure on the Vermont Senate to take action on gun legislation.

I’m going to push them to honor the will of Burlington voters, but it really is going to be a decision made by high-level Democrats.
