Details: Sean McCarty, a janitor at the Vermont Superior Court in Burlington, was arrested on the charge of bringing a loaded semi-automatic handgun into the courthouse. This is a misdemeanor violation of Vermont statute 13 V.S.A. § 4016. No "intent" to do bodily harm was clear as McCarty had been carrying his .45 to work for almost a year, and he occasionally forgot to leave it in his car. It is alleged that his supervidor asked him to stop before, so this is not a new occurance, and has not warranted police intervention before. Mike Gosselin, the state employee who turned McCarty in, "did not want to come to work because he feared for his safety" according to the affadivit. CURIOUS QUOTE from the Burlington Free Press article, "Donovan said because there is a lot of anxiety and drama at the courthouse, there are restrictions limiting weapon possession to law enforcement." Anxiety and drama? REALLY? No, it is simply Vermont Statute. All gun owners need to be aware of the firearm statutes. |
NO law will prevent crime. No law will stop criminals from getting guns. Gun Control only effects the law-abiding citizen and the politicians know it. |
