Now that Act 191 has passed in May of 2014, with the support of the Governor and the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, this incident brings to light that ACTUAL problem in Vermont. The bill H.735 was proposed and pushed to protect WOMEN from MEN in domestic violence incidents. Mr. Willey's unfortunate demise exemplifies the fact that this bill will NEVER do what it was intended to do. Domestic violence is NOT always against women like Sarah Kenney made it out to appear in Montpelier testimony. In Vermont, it is now about 50/50. Laws do not "protect" people, they punish people after a crime is committed (Act 191 punishes people BEFORE a crime is committed). What is Sarah Kenney and the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence going to do to protect MEN? Nothing.
H.735 was an outright GUN CONTROL bill, and Act 191 is unconstitutional. |
NO law will prevent crime. No law will stop criminals from getting guns. Gun Control only effects the law-abiding citizen and the politicians know it. |
