Details: Direct from the Bennington Banner: "Bennington Elementary School was placed under "lockdown" Wednesday while those at the Bank of Bennington were told to "shelter in place" by Bennington Police who responded to a report of a man with a gun on the Walloomsac River Trail that connects North Street and School Street. The lockdowns were lifted within minutes and the situation resolved peacefully, said Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette. The school's playground was also cleared. Doucette said police found the male sitting on a bench along the trail holding a revolver. "In talking with the individual, we were able to remove the firearm, place him in custody, and transport him up to (Southwestern Vermont Medical Center)," Doucette said. "The situation itself resolved in around 10 to 12 minutes." The person made no threats and cooperated fully with police." "It was an individual who was not feeling good about himself right now," said Doucette. "Based on the quick response from the police department and securing the entire area I don't feel he placed anyone else in danger or jeopardy, but as a precaution we did place the school on lockdown," Doucette said. |
NO law will prevent crime. No law will stop criminals from getting guns. Gun Control only effects the law-abiding citizen and the politicians know it. |
