The firearm was stolen from a home in Colchester to be used in the killing. CASE#: 19A103286 DATE/TIME: 10:40 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2019 INCIDENT LOCATION: Gilman Road, Hinesburg, VT VIOLATION: Death Investigation VICTIM: David Auclair AGE: 45 CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: Williston, Vermont SUMMARY OF INCIDENT ***Update, 4:25 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019*** The Vermont State Police is continuing to investigate the suspicious death of a man whose body was found late Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest trailhead parking lot. The victim has been identified as David Auclair, 45, of Williston. Preliminary investigation indicates he was shot multiple times. The investigation began when the Hinesburg Police Department responded at about 10:40 p.m. Thursday to multiple reports of gunshots in the area of the trailhead. When Hinesburg police arrived, they located a body later identified as that of Mr. Auclair near his vehicle, a gray 2017 GMC pickup truck. Hinesburg police requested assistance from the state police, which responded with members of the Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team and Field Force. Investigators processed the scene on Friday, July 12. Mr. Auclair’s body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington on Friday afternoon for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Detectives are pursuing multiple avenues of investigation, conducting interviews, reviewing any available video and carrying out searches of the scene and locations connected to Mr. Auclair. Investigators do not believe there is a threat to public safety. The Vermont State Police would like to speak to anyone who may have heard gunshots or seen anything suspicious in the area of the trailhead on Thursday evening, or who may have seen Mr. Auclair or his GMC truck (Vermont registration 290A755). Hinesburg Police Department requested assistance from the Vermont State Police, who responded to assist with the death investigation. Due to the lack of lighting, the scene will be secured overnight and the investigation will resume during daylight hours. Gilman Road, in proximity to Honey Hill Road, will be closed to through traffic during the investigation. At this time there are no further details.
