Crimes and criminal procedures; firearms; background checks
Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to require that a background check be conducted on the proposed transferee before a firearm may be transferred unless the transfer is between immediate family members, by or to a law enforcement agency, or by or to a law enforcement officer or member of the U.S. Armed Forces acting within the course of his or her official duties.

In short, FIREARM REGISTRATION as each firearm sold is recorded into permanent record to be collected and scanned into the federal database.

Here we go again! The anti-hunting and anti-gun crowds are combining together to "get SOMETHING passed!"

An act relating to establishing extreme risk protection orders

Subject: Criminal procedures ; firearms; extreme risk protection orders
Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to establish a procedure for a law enforcement officer to obtain an extreme risk protection order.
This bill has had several MAJOR changes to protect the constitutional rights of Vermonters. We thank Senator Sears for working with the VT 2A community to fix those issues.

HOWEVER, S221 was ALTEREDin the HOUSE Judiciary to REMOVE those very same protections to make the bill EASIER to obtain and IN EFFECT FIVE TIMES LONGER!
