Additional Comments: WARNING: Probably the most anti-gun politician running for office in 2014 and 2016!

Marcia had a SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY WORD statement on what gun control she WILL enact in Vermont on her 2014 website!

Synopsis: "I intend to propose legislation to make mandatory a yearly gun check, the cost, of which, to be assumed by gun owners. The permit application, yearly gun check will include a fee to cover the cost.

I feel that improving conditions concerning gun control is imperative for the purpose of providing safety to our townships, our schools and the mountainous country that we all adore.

I intend to propose legislation to set forth mandatory minimum sentencing for those found guilty to voluntary manslaughter, second degree and first degree murder."

(Comment) Mandatory Minimum Sentencing is what is used in states like Massachusetts to enforce gun control. No matter what the infraction, it is mandatory jail time and felony charges.

2014 Gun Control Statement:
"There have been a number of slayings of innocent children and people throughout this county.
We’ve heard about them in the news, read about them in the newspaper and thanked our lucky stars that didn’t happen here in Vermont.
So, we send our children off to school, shop at the local market, buy an ice cream at a local ice cream shop without an overriding concern as to what might happen. Though we know what happened outside Vermont, we aren’t concerned that such an event will happen here.
Meanwhile, there is an occasional shooting.
A man in Westfield shot and killed someone dead.
A 14 year old child in Stewartson is found raped and murdered, an elderly woman in Barton is missing from her home and found months later, having been removed from her home at some time during the evening, murdered. In Newport, VT a murder suicide left two lifeless bodies near the downtown district.
The Status Quo
Vermonters pride themselves with "Vermont Carry", a term that refers to one of the most permissive set of laws concerning gun regulation in the country.
The State of Vermont doesn't issue gun permits and, so, certainly doesn't require gun owners to carry gun permits, as such an animal in the State of Vermont doesn't exist.
Gun owners that live here or visit may carry firearms openly or concealed without being subjected to requests for permits or even proof of ownership.
When someone purchases a gun through a gun shop, gun shop owners, however, are bound to run a "NIX" check that would deny a new owner the legal means to purchase a gun through a gun shop if he/she has been convicted of a felony, or has a restraining order upon his/her person in effect or fails to meet other criteria.
However, concerning purchases of a gun in the second hand market, there is no "NIX" check, certainly no permit application and no record of ownership.
Guns are simply transferrable, without a background check and without any governing body being informed.
Police, who might have probable cause to approach a citizen who is in possession of a gun, may refer to the "Brady Laws".
Such a person may either temporarily or permanently lose possession of his/her gun if that person is "Brady Disqualified".
Hand guns and rifles are prevalent amongst Vermonters.
On more than one occasion, I’ve asked a Vermonter, “Why do you have a hand gun?”
The answer that I’ve heard most often is for the purpose of being safe at night from intruders with guns, not wild animals.
I’ve clearly noted fear and concern among Vermonters, on more than one occasion.
I have found that, in some instances, people here have hand guns because they are afraid of other people who also have guns.
How About Some Legislative Change With Regard to Gun Regulation In Vermont?
I know that a number of Vermonters might not like the idea, however, those that have migrated to the state over these past several years might not be aware that "Vermont Carry" exists and perhaps wouldn't mind some changes.
It is my contention that governing bodies need to be informed of ownership of guns, in its entirety.
Guns are lethal weapons.
Gun registration for initial sales, as well as a yearly gun check and state imposed regulation that would include referencing any sale or transfer to include the new owner's information- would be tremendously helpful.
a "NIX" check for second hand buyers could be imposed upon the state's receipt of information pertaining to the purchasers of second hand guns. I intend to propose legislation to make mandatory a yearly gun check that would include a mandatory registration of primary and secondary hand gun transfers, the cost, of which, to be assumed by the purchasers of hand guns.
The yearly gun check/second hand transfer will also include a fee to cover the cost.

I feel that improving conditions concerning gun control is imperative for the purpose of providing safety to our townships, our schools and the mountainous country that we all adore.
"Vermont Carry" will continue, as people will continue to be free to exhibit their freedom to carry a gun without a permit/registration form, openly or concealed, meanwhile, governing bodies will be informed."

2016: PUSHING FOR AN OUTRIGHT BAN ON POSSESSION OF IVORY: "There is no question in my mind that a ban on ivory should be imposed without exemption. The distance from the matter of importance concerning this issue on the part of the Senate House is appalling."
"As concerned citizens with a deep affection for wildlife and the environment, I hope that Vermonters will reach out to their State Legislatures to ban the import and sale of ivory - in its entirety in Vermont. Without a ready market poachers might seek another venture."

I know that a number of Vermonters might not like the idea, however, those that have migrated to the state over these past several years might not be aware that "Vermont Carry" exists and perhaps wouldn't mind some changes. WARNING: You heard it, MANDATORY REGISTRATION and YEARLY CHECKS (that you have to pay for) to make sure you still have all the guns you registered!
