Additional Comments: Phil led the charge to destroy firearm rights in Vermont in 2018. S.55 was the first anti-gun bill that intentionally targeted LAW-ABIDING gun owners!
From 2013: Sponsored S.32: The ultimate gun ban bill ever proposed in Vermont.
So unconstitutional and restrictive Diane Feinstein would have been proud, it was PULLED from the floor after much public backlash.
Make no mistake, he will try again, and again…
Wants the Burlington charter changes.

2015: Universal Background Checks introduced as expected.
'Common Sense regulations on guns.'

I won't take a lot of your time or mine -- your mind seems very made up on the issues you raise. But I'll hope that you can take me at my word that I love our state, and it's my belief that background checks strengthen rather than weaken it. We disagree on that but I can tell you that I've thought long and hard about it -- and read hundreds of emails on both sides- and I can't see how requiring a background check for an Internet sale (just like we have at a dealer) restricts anyone's rights. So please know that it's not a casual move on my part.
Best,
Phil Baruth

2020: Voted FOR S.169 (bad).
2020: Co-sponsored S.259: “No carrying of semi-automatic assault weapons in public places.”

10/8/17: "I think we have found middle ground, and the universal background check in the judiciary committee represents that, and the reason I say that is because the public polling is pretty much of a piece with the exception Eddie was talking about online polls, and those are driven by the people that have the most enthusiastic and they contact the friends to vote a lot, and it's not a scientific poll. It shows Vermonters have found a sensible middle ground. Linda and I are not antigun."
Ya, right..."

10/3/17: "We have these things all the time, it's a pattern and it's a pattern we are doing absolutely nothing about,” said Senator Philip Baruth, D- Chittenden District.
Baruth has introduced legislation that would require background checks whenever guns are transferred between individuals. Currently, background checks are only required in sales by a licensed dealer.
Baruth said, "90% of Vermonters support it, 80% of gun owners but it's stuck on the wall in there which shows you that DC isn't the only problem, we have a problem here in Vermont too."

If re-elected, Baruth plans to introduce a bill this winter that would require background checks for private gun sales. The exact text of the bill has not been released, but Baruth said it would be similar to a gun control bill that stirred controversy in 2015.
