2013-2014 Gun Bills:
Bill #2: 2013-2014: Sponsored H.706 (BAD): Prohibiting the possession of firearms and other dangerous or deadly weapons on any school property, which includes knives, baseball bats, metal rods, axes, etc, would have TWO MAJOR EFFECTS:
1. The right of every Vermonter to carry a firearm or other weapon for self defense will be outlawed.
Parents could not pick up or drop off their children at school, administrators and teachers will likewise be prohibited from travelling to and from their job while protected.
NO ONE WILL BE ARMED WHEN THE NEXT KILLER WALKS BY THE "GUN-FREE ZONE" SIGN...
This is a VERY BAD procident to set.
2. Hunting in the State of Vermont will virtually cease.
THOUSANDS of acres of hunting land are "owned" by schools and colleges in Vermont.
Travelling by, or near a school will become illegal for any road crews that carry dangerous tools.

Bill #1: 2013-2014: Sponsored H.735 (BAD): This was the most contentious bill until S.55 in 2018.
This massive piece of gun control legislation was attached inside a 'fee' bill to slide it through Montpelier without anyone noticing.
Gun Owners of Vermont not only noticed, but fought it all the way to the end.
If you haven't followed the history and sordid past of this bill, visit the Gun Owners of Vermont Facebook page and jump over to the FILE section. Many downloadable documents outlining this unconstitutional bill will give you the details.
As of May 10, 2014 Act 191 is LAW.
Anyone ACCUSED of 'domestic violence' under a temporary Relief from Abuse Order (unadjudicated - Violation of Article 10), can now have the their house illegally searched without a warrant (violation of Article 11), ALL items that can be deemed 'weapons' (guns, ammunition, knives, baseball bats, bows, axes, etc) will be confiscated by Law Enforcement (violation again of Article 11) and held at the ACCUSED's repayment of fines when a permanent order is lifted.
By creating a new section of Criminal Law under Section 20 V.S.A., the accused then is required to PAY FEES TO THE STATE for the storage of said items when the court deems them to be returned, however, the fees levied are designed to outweigh the value of the firearms and ammo! This is a CONFISCATION BILL!
The law does not recognize a search warrant being needed, nor a court appearance.
This law violates the Vermont Constitution under the following: Article 9, Article 10, Article 11, Article 12, Article 16.

Signed into law by Governor Peter Shumlin on June 16, 2014.

Articles On Candidate's Stance and Actions on Gun Control:
Source #5: Proposed H.706 (firearms regulation - illegal under the Vermont Constitution):
AN ACT RELATING TO PROHIBITING THE POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AND OTHER DANGEROUS OR DEADLY WEAPONS ON ANY SCHOOL PROPERTY
This (and the mirroring Senate bill S.178 by Don Collins) would have completely destroyed self-defence for families of school-age children AND hunters across the state!
An editorial was written to 31 newspapers by Bob DePino regarding S.178, and only 4 actually printed it.

Source #3: PROGRESSIVE PARTY Platform: Develop effective state gun control measures, such as universal background checks, safe storage regulations and an end to the violent felon loophole. The VPP views the issues of gun violence as both a criminal and health issue for Vermonters.

Source #2: Editorial on S.178 (Senate Version of H.706) by Bob DePino.
The anti-gun politicians are looking for every loophole to push gun control, confiscation, and restriction on lawful use of Article 16. NEVER let your guard down!
